Royal Birmingham Conservatoire students are to perform a free ‘musical extravaganza’ to raise funds to support the work of Birmingham-charity Services For Education – that is responsible for supporting thousands of children embark on their own musical journeys.

Ten students from the Conservatoire’s Advanced Postgraduate Diploma Course students will perform at the specially staged lunchtime Gala Concert on Tuesday, 28 June 2022 at Birmingham Conservatoire’s Bradshaw Hall, at 200 Jennens Road, Birmingham.

The wide-ranging two-hour concert is the inspiration of Dr Siân Derry, Course Director for the Advanced Postgraduate Diploma at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, working with ten students who have committed their time to raise funds for Services for Education which is celebrating its tenth anniversary and works with 93% of Birmingham schools and each year teaches music to nearly 38,000 children.

The concert will be free to attend but it is hoped that concertgoers will make donations, said Dr Derry.

“Our students were very keen to support music education within the wider Birmingham community and when I suggested Services For Education, they all thought it was a great idea,” said Dr Derry.

The concert will be held at The Bradshaw Hall, Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, 200 Jennens Road, Birmingham B4 7XR on Tuesday, 28 June 2022 starting at 12 noon until 2pm.

Performers include Rose Johnson, Nathan Isaac, Henry Reavey, Jiazheng Yang, Yuemeng Li, Stien De Neef, Simone Damiani, Yating Hu, Hsuan Wu and Yusheng Gao.

Services For Education’s Music Service is one of the largest in the country and, in addition to its work inspiring children in Birmingham schools, runs 97 free ensembles and provides 27,000 musical instruments free-of-charge so all children have access to playing and enjoying music together.
