I don’t know about you… but Easter has crept up pretty quickly on me this year!

And although I won’t be taking an extended break, it is nice to have a four day weekend, filled with sun (hopefully), to look forward to.

But what to do with my time..?

This week I’ve been doing a little bit of research about the best places to go with kids in Birmingham this Easter.

Here’s what I found…

1. Cannon Hill Park

The weather is supposedly looking up, so a trip to Cannon Hill Park is a nice, affordable idea.

Pack up a picnic or visit the MAC for lunch, where there’s always something good going on, and let the kids enjoy the good weather and the great outdoors.

Feeling adventurous? Then be sure to check out their Golden Putter mini golf and get the whole family involved in some healthy competition.

There is also a little, underrated nature centre which hosts a range of animals, from red pandas and wallabies to monkeys and lemurs. Tickets to enter the nature centre cost £7.65 per adult, and £3.80 per child, or you can get a family ticket for £25.

2. Sutton Park

Sutton Park is so huge and so filled with things to do that it’s actually quite difficult to know where to start, but if the weather really does turn for the better, it will probably become a number one hotspot for the Easter break. You can:

• Cycle around the many designated paths dotted across the park.
• Play mini golf or go fishing.
• Go horse riding.
• Go Sailing at Sutton Sailing Club.
• Visit the Donkey Sanctuary.

Or simply enjoy the park for what it is and have a kick about, picnic or visit one of the many playgrounds within.

There is even a Miller and Carter and a Toby Carvery if you start to feel peckish.

3. Hatton Country World

We visited this ourselves over the weekend and I must say it’s absolutely packed full of things for kids to do at the moment.

You can feed the many lambs, goats, donkeys and pigs. You can hold the chicks, ducklings, guinea pigs and snakes (not at the same time…)

There is an outdoor and an indoor play area which has a couple of very high slides, open to children and parents if that’s what you’re interested in!

And don’t forget to check out their Spring Spectacular activities, running from the 1^st – 16^th of April. From Easter Egg Hunts to Family Magic Shows, there’s something for the whole family to get stuck into.

Entry costs £16.95 per person on the door (same for children and adults) but if you book online, you can currently get a small discount.

4. West Midland Safari Park’s 50^th Birthday

Running from 13^th – 28^th April, WMSP are celebrating their 50^th Birthday in style.

Bramble Bunny’s Birthday Bash is set to be hosted by their resident Easter bunny and there are plenty of games (including an animal egg trail) for the kids to get involved in. Children will even earn a chocolatey treat if they succeed.

Admission tickets are £22 per person (same for children and adults), or £32 to also access their Adventure Theme Park.

5. Visit Cadbury World

Taking place from the 7^th – 10^th April, Easter Fun at Cadbury World will feature a live show from Mr Cadbury’s Parrot on a mission to find the golden egg.

The Easter Bunny will also be making an appearance and will be hosting an Easter trial with special prizes at the end.

And don’t forget your Easter Bonnets – it’s time to put those artistic skills to good use ready for the daily parade at 2pm.

Standard tickets start from £21 per adult and £15.50 per child.

Or if you’re feeling peckish, why not go for the Character Afternoon Tea + Entry ticket:

Treat the little ones to a fun-filled dining experience with their favourite Cadbury characters, from the Caramel Bunny to Freddo. Tickets start from £38.50 per adult and £29 per child.

6. Farmer Paul’s Lost Lamb Easter Trial at Birmingham Botanical Gardens

Running from the 1^st – 16^th April, Farmer Paul’s Lost Lamb Easter Trial will involve the little ones playing a crucial role in helping Farmer Paul find his lost lambs around the gardens.

Search Birmingham’s Botanical Gardens for colourful lambs and receive a chocolate treat at the end – what’s not to love?

Entry to the gardens starts at £8.25 per adult and £6.05 per child, with a £3 ticket upgrade for anyone wanting to take part in the Trial. Or purchase a family ticket for £21.50.

7. Akamba Venue

Akamba in Shirley triples up as an Afro-Caribbean restaurant, Heritage & Garden Centre, and Tropical House where you can go on an African Bird Walk and visit the Reptile House.

And if the weather holds out (fingers crossed), why not venture into their Beach and Bar Garden, where kids can play in the sand and adults can choose from a range of delicious cocktails.

It’s great fun and only costs £4 per person to have a look around, according to the website.

The food is also really good (the cocktails too if that’s your thing).

8. Visit Becketts Farm

From learning about the chick hatching process to meeting Lambs and Miniature Goats, Easter at Becketts Farm looks set to be a fun-filled day out for the whole family.

And if you’re feeling creative? Then be sure to get stuck into their Easter craft activities – after all, it’s the effort that counts!

Entry costs just £3 (for both children and adults) and the event is running from the 1^st – 16^th April

9. Birmingham Thinktank’s Bird Egg Trail

An egg hunt with a twist!

With nature collection eggs hidden around Thinktank, it’s up to the whole family to get their detective game on and find as many eggs as possible.

The Bird Egg Trail will be running from 10am – 5pm from the 1^st April – 16^th and is included in your admission ticket (adults £15.50, children £7.50).

And if egg trails aren’t your thing? Then check out MiniBrum – Thinktank’s own mini city. A child-sized world featuring a plethora of Birmingham’s famous landmarks, a play zone sure to keep the little ones entertained.

10. Science Activities

If you’re interested in doing something a little more educational this Easter break, there are a huge range of science attractions in and around the City.

From dinosaurs to rockets, there’s something for everyone.

11. Do It Yourself

Most of our ideas have some sort of cost to them (some more than others). But if you’re looking for something a little more affordable and DIY, you could always:

• Set up an Easter Egg Hunt.
• Put on an Egg-and-Spoon race tournament.
• Paint / draw faces on boiled eggs.
• Bake rice crispy cakes.
• Create Easter bonnets.

Sometimes it’s the simple things that are the most fun.
